Go Back  Department of Fish and Game Funding to implement Dungeness crab trap limit and tag program Reduce Governor’s January budget request by $138,000 for the purchase of crab trap tags. The earliest that these tags will be needed is November 2013; as a result, this funding is not needed in the current fiscal year. 2-23-12

Detailed Narrative

The Governor’s budget requests $702,000 from the Dungeness Crab Account to fully implement the Dungeness crab trap limit and tag program as required by Chapter 335, Statutes of 2011 (SB 369, Evans). The request includes funding for staff and equipment. According to the Department of Fish and Game the earliest it would need to purchase crab tags, which indicate a given crab trap is permitted, is November 2013, which falls in the 2013-14 fiscal year.   Accordingly, we recommend reducing the request by $138,000 for the purchase of these  tags.
