Go Back  California Community Colleges Intercollegiate athletics Eliminate state funding for CCC intercollegiate athletics, for savings of about $55 million in 2011-12. 2-16-11

Detailed Narrative

Currently, colleges offer classes for CCC athletes (such as "Beginning Theory of Offensive Football" and "Defensive Baseball Skills 2") and claim apportionments for the enrollment that is generated (as measured in full-time equivalent students [FTES]). These monies fund intercollegiate athletic programs. Given the state's fiscal condition and the desire to protect the CCC system's highest-priority missions, the Legislature could prohibit colleges from counting these FTES for apportionment purposes. Such an action would achieve about $55 million in state savings in 2011-12.
