Notes: Figure shows state and institutional aid programs supported with core funds (state General Fund and student tuition revenue).
See "Financial Aid Award Coverage" for a description of each type of award.
The UC Grant may cover tuition and nontuition expenses. UC uses the program to cover any remaining need after all other financial aid is applied. To estimate the nontuition UC Grant award for 2016-17, we used the actual maximum nontuition cost at UC for 2015-16 less the self-help expectation that year. We grew the resulting amount by 2 percent each year shown.
The CCC Promise Grant (formerly the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver) covers the credit charge of $46 per unit. Amount shown reflects award for a student taking 30 credit units annually.
Nontuition awards typically may cover any living cost, including rent, food, transportation, books, and supplies.
The CCC Student Success Completion Grant provides students with between $1,000 and $4,000 annually based on the number of units taken.
